9:10 - FATAL Shooting update

At 12:14 p.m., Ellensburg Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of West University Way. On arrival, officers found a victim with serious gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Officers are actively investigating this shooting and have identified a person of interest who is still at large. It does not appear to be a random act of violence.

Officers continue to look for the suspect and if anyone sees something suspicious they should call

911.

We appreciate the assistance provided by numerous law enforcement agencies and want to thank the community for their patience and support.

This investigation is ongoing and information may be subiect to change as we learn more.

The suspect of the shooting has been identified and officers are actively in the area in pursuit.

This is an active investigation, and we will now start to provide information as it comes rather than in regular intervals. We ask everyone to remain safe and continue to provide reports of suspicious activity to 9-1-1.

Police Activity in the area of 9th and C St. Please avoid the area.

UPDATE 5:30 PM

Any assistance locating the suspect with known facial tattoos, to include a cross, with dark hair in a mullet hair style. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with a hood, light colored jeans, and white shoes. If anyone has any information or potential identification of a person matching this description, please contact 9-1-1 immediately. There was 1 victim fatally shot who was known to the suspect and the suspect is still at large. There will be no names released at this time due to it being an open and active investigation. Thank you for coming together as a community to continue to help keep this community safe.

Ellensburg High School and Morgan Middle School were released at normal time with buses running about 15 minutes behind.

All Elementary schools will be released at normal time with buses being about 15 minutes behind.

CWU has lifted their Shelter in Place.
